Visit The Soap Factory during Northern Spark, a dusk to dawn participatory art event along the Mississippi and surrounding areas.
During Northern Spark The Soap Factory will be open all night long with our current exhibition Hedge Magic. David Hamlow will be making bricks out of recycled cardboard and plastic packaging. Bring cardboard to contribute, or use David's stockpile to help create bricks and add to an ever-expanding room-sized structure. Jess Hirsch will be hosting an old fashioned tent revival in front of The Soap Factory, exorcising the demons out of abandoned furniture. Her white tent will be full of sage, smoke, eerie music, and candlelight while hosting events such as tarot card readings by Stefanie Motta and vocal loops by Tabitha Sheets. Check out the terracotta dummy bomb seed-shakers created at The Soap Factory in May as part of the FLO(we){u}R project and spread some of your own magic into the night.
At 10pm, outside The Soap Factory, join us for The Ten Second Film Festival. It's our 8th annual outdoor screening of the top 100 ten-second films. Film submissions are accepted until May 1st.
Northern Spark is an active celebration of the creativity of artists and the creative programming of cultural organizations. Last year, during the night of June 4, 2011, there were 50,000 visits to 100 projects by more than 200 artists in collaboration with 60 cultural organizations and sponsors at 34 venues in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Northern Spark was a one-night creative explosion. More information about the festival and the evening's events please visit northernspark.org
